GAA CLUB NOTES

On Sunday afternoon the Senior team played their Connacht Club Semi-Final against Ballina-Stephenites in Pearse Stadium. It was difficult conditions in Pearse Stadium with a strong wind going from the Bothar Na Trá end to the Rockbarton Road End. Corofin played with the wind in the first half and they moved the ball forward with pace and ease, racking up 9 points before the break. It stood Corofin 0-09 Ballina 0-03 at the halfway stage.

Many wondered how the Corofin team would adapt to playing against the strong wind in the second half. The team came out and continued their expressive play with the ball, moving it long, short and stretched the Ballina team to create scoring space with ease. Some great scores from Jack McCabe and Gary Sice were the icing on the cake after some great teamwork. Ballina put a couple of scores on the board towards the end but the result was all but decided at that stage.

With 14 of Corofin’s 16 scores coming from open play, it shows how creative the team played and took their scores very well. The game finished Corofin 0-16 Ballina Stephenites 0-12. The Seniors will play St Brigid’s in the Connacht Club Final on Sunday 3rd December at 1:30pm in Dr Hyde Park.

The U-19 team are due to play their County Final against Killannin this Saturday at 1:00pm in Pearse Stadium. Lets get to Salthill on Saturday and bring the colour to cheer on the lads! Best of luck to the players and management team.
