Club Notes 27 April

MENS NOTES:

Congratulations to Emily Coen, Ardskeamore who wins our lotto jackpot of €17,600. The numbers drawn were 7, 8, 14, 17. We had three match 3s – Patsy McNamara, Carole Canney and Wayne Ryan. The seller's prize went to Terry Delaney. Next week’s jackpot is €2,000 with the draw in the Cellar Bar.

Best wishes to the Galway senior footballers who take on New York in the Connacht Senior Championship Preliminary Round in New York next Sunday. The game starts at 8.00 pm (3.00 pm local time). Good luck to our Club players involved and to Brian Silke (selector).

We wish a speedy recovery to our players who are receiving treatment for various injuries at the moment. We hope they will all be back fighting fit later in the summer.

Our seniors lost to Mountbellew/Moylough in the John Dunne Cup played in Mountbellew last Thursday on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-11.

The junior A team play Annaghdown on Saturday in the league at 5.00 pm in Cregg.

Our minors defeated Annaghdown by 0-12 to 1-8 in the minor A football league, played last Wednesday in Annaghdown. They play Tuam Stars this Wednesday evening at 7.00 pm in Corofin.

Hard luck to the under 14s who lost by 4 points to Glenamaddy/Glinsk in a tight semi-final of Féile, played in Glenamaddy on Saturday. The team had won all their group games earlier in the day with victories over St Michael’s, Tuam Stars and the host club, Caherlistrane. Glenamaddy/Glinsk lost out to Salthill-Knocknacarra in the final on Sunday. The under 14 team returns to action with a league game against Mountbellew/Moylough at 7.00 pm on Friday in Corofin.

Under 6,8 and 10 continue their training on Saturday morning at 10 in Belclare.

The Raftery Cup starts tomorrow evening (Thursday ) at 6.15 in Belclare. The second round takes place on Tuesday 5th of May also at 6.15 in Belclare. Come and support our young players.

Many thanks to all who supported our Nathan Carter concert in the Radisson Hotel on Saturday night. All enjoyed a great night.

The Club Shop opens on Fridays from 7.00 to 9.00 pm and on Sundays from 10.30 to 12.30 pm. The shop is located beside Raftery’s Centra.

LADIES FOOTBALL:

U6/U8 training continues in Belclare every Tuesday from 6pm to 7pm.
U10s training are on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s in Belclare from 6pm to 7pm.
U12 training for the week ahead is as follows: the B team train on Monday 27th from 6.45 – 8.00 pm and Wednesday 29th from 6.00 – 7.00 pm; the A team train on Tuesday 28th from 6.00 – 7.15pm.
We wish good luck to our U14 girls as Féile starts this Saturday the 2nd in Clonbere / Caherlistrane / Knockdoemore / Moycullen. The first round of the league starts on Monday, 4 May.

U16s training is on Friday in Belclare from 6.00 to 7.00 pm.

Congrats to our club players and team Mentor Brian O’Donovan who are part of the County U14 panel that defeated Roscommon in the 4th round of the Connacht U 14 Championship.

Wishing good luck to our County U16 club players, Leanne Coen, Orla Canney, Emily Donnelly, Amy O’Donovan and Amy Coen and Team Mentor Stephen Hession, when they play Sligo on Friday next.

Wishing good luck to our County U18 club players, Dearbhla Gower and Chelsey Blade and the rest of the team when they Play Mayo on Monday 4th in the Connaught Final.

Congrats and well done to the Galway senior Ladies in their win over Dublin last Sunday. This qualifies them for an Ireland League final versus Cork in Parnell Park on the 9th May. We have 7 Girls on the panel. We can organise a bus on the day to go support the girls. Anyone interested in joining us, should contact David (086 2350004) or Sharon (087 1470921).

Corofin Ladies held a very successful Player Registration Evening last Friday. Anyone who could not register at that event is reminded that LGFA registrations are now due. Parental Consent Registration forms are available from team managers and all underage players need to provide a completed form and the registration fee before they can be registered. Registration fees for 2015 are Under 10 on 1st January 2015 €30, 10 to 18 years old €45, Adult players €60 and non-playing Club members €30. Please supply forms and fees to our Registrar, Gina O'Grady, as soon as possible.

Club Notes 20 April

MENS NOTES:

The Corofin team was given a Civic Reception by Galway County Council at a function held in City Hall on Wednesday night last. A presentation was made to Michael Farragher, captain and Michael Ryder, chairman by Kevin Kelly, chief executive Galway County Council and Cllr Mary Hoade, Cathoirleach Galway County Council.

Congratulations to Kieran Fitzgerald, Liam Silke, Gary Sice and Micheál Lundy who were all selected on the Gaelic Life All-star team for 2014/15. In addition Micheál Lundy was chosen as the Gaelic Life All-Ireland Club Footballer of the Year for 2014/15. Well done lads. As this is the first year of the awards, Kieran Fitzgerald has the unique distinction of having won an All-star for Galway in 2001 and now for his club.

Our seniors made it two wins out of two in the league on Friday evening when they had a comprehensive win over Killanin in Corofin.
Our intermediates also made it two wins with an 11pts to 1-7 defeat of Ballinasloe in the league on Saturday evening in Ballinasloe.
The junior A team were defeated by a very strong Caherlistrane team on Sunday in the league.

The seniors are scheduled to play Mountbellew/Moylough on Thursday evening at 7.30 pm in the John Dunne Cup in Mountbellew.

Just a few days before our big “Nathan Carter Concert”, taking place in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Galway next Saturday, starting at 9.00 pm with support band “Don’t Do Hugs”. Tickets costing €20 are still available locally.

County Féile na nÓg Blitz commences this Saturday when we travel to Caherlistrane for the round robin matches against St Micheal’s, Tuam Stars, and the host team Caherlistrane.
The blitz starts at 11am. Come along and support the lads on which should be a great morning of football.

Under 6, 8 and 10 continue their training in Belclare at 10am

U12A had a very good win on Friday over Naomh Mhuire, Oranmore.
U16s training takes place on Friday in Belclare 6 to 7pm – everyone to attend as league games have started.
Congrats to our club players and team mentor Brian O’Donovan who are part of the County U14 panel that defeated Sligo in the 3rd round of the Connacht U 14 Championship.

Thank you to the 16 players who played for Corofin Ladies Seniors last Saturday in our League game against Kilkerrin Clonberne. Well done especially to the 9 underage players who turned out for us for the game. We put in a competitive performance against the county and Connacht champions – Kilkerrin-Clonberne. We were leading on several occasions, until midway through the second half when their greater panel numbers and the fresh legs of our opponents overwhelmed us. Final score was Kilkerrin-Clonberne 2-20 to Corofin 3-8.

Next training session for the senior panel is Saturday 25th April at 7pm in Belclare. Please make every effort to attend so that we can begin to increase the number of players who are match ready. The next Senior League fixture versus Clonbur is down to be played on 16th May.

MEN'S NOTES:
Our seniors commenced their defense of the senior league with a 14 points to 9 victory over Tuam Stars on Saturday. The team returns to action on Friday evening when they play Killanin in Corofin at 7.00 pm. Remember there is free entry to this game for club members on production of current membership cards.
Our intermediates play Ballinasloe in the league at 6.00 pm on Saturday evening in Ballinasloe.

The first round of the senior and intermediate championship has been scheduled for the weekend of 23 and 24 May. Corofin play Salthill-Knocknacarra in the senior championship, while the intermediates play Athenry.

U16s defeated Glenamaddy-Glinsk in their first league match of the year. We play St. Brendan's, Ballygar on Thursday evening at 7.00 in Corofin.
U14s defeated Annaghdown in Creggs on Friday evening. That was the final league match before the Féile. The county Féile is on Saturday 25th of April. We are in a group with Caherlistrane, St Michaels and Tuam Stars, with the first game starting at 11.00 am versus Caherlistrane, the host club.
U12s are to play Mounthbellew-Moylough in the Easy Fix league on Thursday evening in Belclare.
U 10s and 9s play Claremorris in a challenge match on Saturday morning at 11.00 am in Belclare.
U8, 7 and 6 continue their training in Belclare on Saturday morning at 10.00 am.

Ladies Football:

U6/U8 training continues in Belclare every Tuesday from 6pm to 7pm.
U10s training are on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s in Belclare from 6pm to 7pm.

U12s have no training this week due to B team playing St. James on Tuesday, and the A team are playing Oranmore on Friday. Both games are away.

U14 training has been changed to Mondays and Wednesdays in Belclare at 7pm. Full attendance is required from now on as the league and Féile starts in 3 weeks time.
All new players are very welcome in all age groups.

U16s training takes place on Friday in Belclare 6 to 7pm – everyone to attend as league games have started.

Congrats and well done to the following club players who made it onto the County U16 panel, Leanne Coen, Emily Donnelly, Amy O’Donovan, Amy Coen, and Orla Canney.

Congrats to our Senior club players who were part of the Galway panel in their magnificent league match win over Mayo last Sunday. This team have now qualified for a league semi-final versus Dublin.

Corofin Ladies Registration takes place this coming Friday 17th April from 7pm to 9pm in Belclare. This year the registration fees are U10 – €30 per girl; 11-18 year olds – €45 per girl; Adult players €60 per person and non-playing members €30 per person. In each case these fees simply cover what we have to pay to the Ladies Gaelic Football Association via their on-line registration system for each individual member of our Club. Player registration fees include a contribution to the Injury Fund. Existing Player Registrations expire 31st May. It takes us approximately two weeks to register players. It is particularly important that anyone who might be involved with Féile or with any County teams is registered well before 31st May.

Club Notes 6 April

MEN'S NOTES:
Sincere thanks to all who supported our Fashion Show in the Claregalway Hotel last Thursday night. Well done to all our brave ‘models’ who participated on the night.

Well done to all club players who played with Galway teams over the weekend. Galway minors had a good win over Roscommon in Tuam on Saturday evening. Roscommon retained their Connacht U21 title with a well merited 3-14 to 3-11 win over Galway also in Tuam Stadium on Saturday evening. The Galway seniors maintained their division 2 status with a 6 point win over Kildare on Sunday.

Our seniors return to action on Saturday 11th April when they play their first league game at 6.00 pm against Tuam Stars in Tuam Stars ground.

Under 16s played Glenamaddy-Glinsk in their first league match on Tuesday evening.
We play Mountbellew -Moylough on Tuesday the 14th of April in Corofin.
Under 14s had a comfortable win over Tuam Stars in the first round of this year’s league on Friday evening in Corofin. We play Annaghdown in the second round on Friday the 10th April in Creegs at 7.00 pm.
Under 12s also had a comfortable win over Tuam Stars in the Easy Fix league in Belclare on Friday evening.
